What better place to invest in the future of cannabis science than Canada’s home of medical cannabis?
Long considered a pioneer in Canada’s medical cannabis community, CanniMed will continue to lead the way in research and development thanks to a $1.5 million bump in investment at its newly-named Aurora Prairie facility.
Building on the strength of 18 years as a trusted source of quality medical cannabis in Canada, CanniMed’s dedicated team in Saskatoon will be focused on strengthening its science research, and it’s just the beginning --a further investment of $16 million will be made by parent company Aurora Cannabis Inc. over the next 18 months.
The research at Aurora Prairie will include identifying new plant genetics with improved characteristics to optimize plant growth and breed high-quality, custom cultivars.
Aurora Prairie will be a science hub for plant science innovation in tissue culture, research cultivation and analytical chemistry. This hub will add to Aurora’s research capacity by building on its ongoing plant science program already in place at locations in Vancouver, B.C., Bradford, ON, and Edmonton, AB.
Ten cultivation spaces will be dedicated to research and development, making the Aurora Prairie facility Aurora’s largest indoor cultivation space for cannabis genetics research.
Labs at the facility have been updated with new, specialized equipment to increase quality control and analytical capabilities. The facility will also continue its collaboration research work with the University of Saskatchewan on pre-clinical and clinical studies.
Purchased by Aurora Cannabis in 2018, CanniMed has continued to be a leader in providing high quality medical cannabis product using extremely rigorous processes. From an early stage, CanniMed has offered patients and physicians access to an on-site pharmacist to aid in education for those seeking medical cannabis.
Aurora Prairie will continue to produce the medical cannabis products that patients have come to trust and rely on from CanniMed for anti-inflammation, pain relief, and other conditions.
